Technology For Marketing & Advertising 2010

This past year has been a quick one, next week is the Technology For Marketing & Advertising show once again in Earls court. I have attended this show for the past 4 years and find it very interesting and learn a tremendous amount regarding internet marketing strategy, future trends to watch out for and the opportunity to talk directly with organisations such as Google, YouTube and Facebook.

This year looks no different with a great line up of keynote speakers over the two day show and lots of practical workshops, I always leave the event buzzing with new ideas and looking forward to my trip next week.

Some of the key session I have already highlighted include:

Dr. Dave Chaffey’s Keynote session on Optimising you Digital Marketing Mix
I have listened to Dave a few time and he talks perfect sense, he looks to combine traditional marketing theory to the digital arena, integrating your marketing tools both on and offline to increase the noise and effectiveness of the campaigns. I feel this session will address cuts to marketing budgets looking at how to use limited resources more effectively by joining the dots.

Ashley Friedlein’s Keynote session called the Future of Online Marketing is… Offline Marketing!
Again Ashley will be talking about his views on “Joined-up Marketing” showing how traditional methods and techniques can support and develop online marketing strategies and techniques. I’ve not seen Ashley before and looking forward to listening to his opinions, as a chartered marketeer i’m very interested in his statement “if you’re a traditional marketer, you really need to get digital. If you’re a digital marketer, you need to understand offline channels. But to be a really great marketer of the future you must join the two!”

Google Ads Factory
Google have had a large presence at these events and it’s great to have the opportunity to chat with members of the Search, Analytics and AdWords team, they are a very friendly bunch and have some great ideas. A couple of years ago they introduced the Google University showing people how to use the Google AdWords and Google Analytics products from a beginners, intermediate users vantage point. This year they are offering a schedule of sessions called the Google Ad’s factory
there are 9 sessions over the two day event and will be covering themes such as: Smarter Search Management, Next generation of AdWords Bidding, Content network, Behind the scenes look at technology and a hot topic of local/mobile ads. The mobile element of search is also an important element of a keynote speech from Sarah Speake, Director, Technology and Mobile Sales, Google UK

There are loads more seminars and sessions I have booked to see including online marketing classes from CIM courses leaders, various search, AdWords and Email workshops and an opportunity to network with other marketeers within the industry talking about their opinions of how search is evolving and the potential for clients, agencies and individuals to harness this potential.

I will be online throughout the two days and hopefully find a little time to update you on what is happening via the blog and twitter.

Social networking witch-hunt

British Airways have suspended 15 members of cabin crew after they made “inppropriate postings” made on their unions Facebook page.

Unite replied saying it would not tolerate “intimidation of staff” and they will “vigorously defend its members”. This story just reminds us of the impact of social networking and also the importance of getting it right.

Glitch for Flickr

Stewart Butterfield one of Flickr’s co-founders have unveiled a new multiplayer online game called Glitch.

Due to be launched this autumn gamers will collaborate to solve puzzles in a 2d environment set in the future.

Buterfield has said the game will be free to play with revenue generated from selling premium accounts and virtual items.

This news comes on the same day a UK national gamers survey report we spent 280 million playing casual online games over 2009.
